Certificate IV in Music Industry (Technical Production)

National Code CUS40201

Purpose                                   
To provide students with a wide range of knowledge and skills to be able to work in the music industry, either as small business (freelance) operator, or as part of a larger company, in a variety of music technology and related fields, including live, multimedia and recording technology.

Outcome
At the completion of this Certificate IV in Music Industry (Technical Production) students will be able to:

  • Work as an assistant in a professional studio or production hire company
  • Manage technical operations

Depending on options taken:

Produce recordings of demos and/or professional recordings using midi/live sources, Create Music Websites, Release an Independent CD, Set-up and Manage a Home Studio, Operate and Managing Lighting, Produce Soundtracks For Film & Television and/or Setting Up PS Systems.

Structure
To attain the Certificate IV in Music Industry (Technical Production) achieve 14 units; at least five units in Group A, five units in Group B and four others.
Two of the four other units should be drawn from Groups A or B and/or the unit bank for Certificate IV. The remaining two units may be drawn from another endorsed industry training package at Certificate IV level.

Nominal Duration
The Certificate IV in Music Industry  (Technical Production) comprises a 234-330 hrs for Group A and 165-267 hrs for Group B.  Those students who have completed the Certificate III in Music (Technical Production) will require less hour allocation.

Competency based learning and assessment allows for the adjustment of training and assessment dependant upon the needs of different students.
